Hike and Bike Multi-Use Recreational Trail

Town of Akron, Indiana

Commonwealth Engineers provided engineering services to prepare a preliminary study, prepare the grant applications, prepare the construction plans and specifications, and oversaw the construction of hiking and biking trails for the Town of Akron, Indiana. The project consisted of approximately 5,500 feet of 8′ wide asphalt paved trails constructed throughout the Town’s park and approximately 1,300 feet of 8′ wide asphalt paved trails constructed on Town-owned property on the southwest side of the Town. Additionally, on the southwest property, 3,900 feet of mountain bike trails were constructed along with a mountain bike “jump park.” Also, the project included signage, accessible parking areas, bench seating, and bike racks.

Commonwealth prepared the grant application for funding of the project by the Indiana Department of Natural Resources through their Recreation Trails Program, which is a matching assistance program that provides funding for the acquisition and/or development of multi-use recreational trail projects.
